Improvements to the digital service provided by HMRC has yielded great results with an additional 30 percent of Tax Credits claimants choosing to renew online as opposed to postal or telephone based methods.
A total of over 2.5 million claims were renewed this year with 39 percent of renewals coming through the online facility.
The remainder of claims were renewed via phone (32 percent) or post (29 percent). HMRC feels the additional numbers were buoyed by the addition of a web chat box to their online service.
Around 225,000 people used the web chat to get help with their claim and renewal process. Advisers were available to chat through to midnight whereas the phone lines close by 8pm during weekdays and 4pm on weekends.
