There are currently around eleven million tax returns for income within the 2012/2013 tax year awaiting submission - and the paper tax return deadline is just around the corner.
All paper tax returns for the 2012/2013 tax year must be received by HMRC by 31st October 2013. Any returns received after this date must either be submitted electronically and before the 31st January online deadline.
If a paper return is received by HMRC on or after 1st November, a fixed £100 penalty will be applied, regardless of any tax due.
To make sure paper returns are submitted on time, and to have the ability to appeal against postal errors, HMRC recommends obtaining proof of posting before sending a paper return.
