HMRC reminds tax credits claimants to renew and reveals minimum wage crackdowns lead to record reimbursements

Reminder to renew tax credit claims by July 31st

HMRC will be issuing tax credit renewal packs up until the end of June. These will need to be completed and returned by the 31st July deadline.

An advertising campaign across various media has begun to remind people if they do not renew, they will lose further entitlement until they do.

Claimants who have not received their packs need to get in touch with HMRC via the tax credits helpline on 0345 300 3900.

Underpaid workers crackdown secures £4.6 million in wage arrears for NMW breaches

22,000 workers being paid under 'National Minimum Wage' have had a record £4.6 million paid to them to secure underpayments - around £200 average per worker. HMRC’s enforcement teams conducted 1,455 investigations, and in addition to the arrears, secured over £800,000 in fines.

People suspecting they are underpaid or know of others can contact the Pay and Work Rights Helpline on 0800 917 2368 to discuss NMW breaches.
