Ofgem sets the energy price cap so that based on a usage of 12,000 kWh gas and 2,900 kWh electricity per year, the annual billed amount to the customer does not exceed the price cap amount. However, the cap only applies to people on the energy provider's standard tariff and not any fixed deal they may offer. It also means that the per kilowatt hour costs deduced from the price cap, once applied to an invididual customer's usage can exceed the advertised price cap.
We have built the below calculator to take your current gas and electricity per kilowatt charges and compare them to the current price cap.
Adjust the inputs above and the calculation will automatically refresh!
