Near 5.7 Million Tax Returns Outstanding As Deadline Looms

With less than a month left before the Self Assessment tax return deadline for the 2021-2022 tax year, it's time to get filing!

It's the time of year again where millions of people are rushing to prepare their online tax returns for the 2021 to 2022 tax year!.

12 million people we required to submit a Self Assessment by the January 31st.

HMRC has reported that 129 people were super organised and got their returns in early on 1 January - a fantastic start to the year!.

However, it's now getting close to the deadline for filing, less than a month left in fact... and for 5.7 million Self Assessment taxpayers time is getting short if they want to avoid having a penalty levied! If you're one of those people, don't forget to do it - and try to beat the end of month rush.

Over 42,500 people brought in the new year by submitting their tax returns on December 31st and January 1st!, with 25,043 filings on New Year's Eve and 17,571 filings on New Year's Day.

The busiest time for filing on New Year's Eve was between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm with a whopping 2,713 returns submitted. On New Year's Day, the busiest period was between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm, with 1,697 returns received.

Please make sure to avoid an late filing penalties for your tax return.
